Madredeus: gitarra 3.45 MUZIEK

Quando uma guitarra trina
Nas mãos de um bom tocador
A própria guitarra ensina
A cantar seja quem for
Eu quero que o meu caixão
Tenha uma forma bizarra
A forma de um coração
A forma de uma guitarra
Guitarra, guitarra querida
Eu venho chorar contigo
Sinto mais suave a vida
Quando tu choras comigo

Madredeus: o Paraíso 6.49 MUZIEK

Subi a escada de papelão
Imaginada
Invocação
Não leva a nada
Não leva não
É só uma escada de papelão
Há outra entrada no Paraíso
Mais apertada
Mais sim senhor
Foi inventada
Por um anão
E está guardada
Por um dragão
Eu só conheço
Esse caminho
Do Paraíso

Cristina Branco: corpo iluminado 2.51 MUZIEK

De que túnel de que árvore
De que zero de remorso
De que rasura do vento
De que núpcias de mármore
De que fresta de que pórtico
Saíste neste momento

Para que praia que porto
Que fugitiva garupa
Que torre desconhecida
Que mãos que braços que rosto
Que tempestade difusa
Te encontras já de partida

Não és de nenhum sossego
Vives no gume do ser
Na fronteira do devir
E assim me tornas eu mesma
Entre nascer e morrer
Entre chegar e partir
Ligthed Body

From that tunnel which tree – What zero of remorse – what whipping of the wind – What nuptials of marble – From what cleft which portico did you come out of right now?
To which beach which port what fleeing rump what unknown tower which hands which arms which face to what formless storm are you now setting forth?
You belong to no serenity you live on the cutting edge of being on the border of what is to come and thus you turn me ionto myself between being born and dying between arriving and departing

Perdi numa hora junto quanto em termos Tão vagarosos e largos alcancei; deixai-me, pois, lembrancas desta glória.

Memories
Remembrance of my good fortune mowed in its prime by order of my sad and evil Fate, allow me to lie still amidst the woes begotten by the disquet of my love.
the present misfortune and the fears of events I expect will be adverse, suffice me; I need not to return of begone fortunes haunting my stillness with their pain.
I lost in an hour all I had achieved, in such a slow and painful way; Leave me, then, the memory of that glory.
My life must end in this solitary place, thus will I end extinguishing my pain. Memory lasts not one but a thousand lives!

Répands sur nous le feu de ta grâce puissante;
Que tout l’enfer fuie au son de ta voix;
Pour te bénir maintenant rassemblé;

Word, equal to the Almighty, our only hope,
Eternal light of the earth and the Heavens;
We break the peaceful night’s silence,
Divine Saviour, cast your eyes upon us!

Spread the fire of your mighty grace upon us
May the entire hell flee at the sound of your voice;
Disperse from any slothful soul the drowsiness
Inducing it to forget your laws!

Oh Christ, look with favour upon this faithful people
Which has now gathered to bless you.
Receive its singing, offered to your immortal glory,
And may it leave with the gifts you have bestowed upon it!

Gabriel Fauré: In paradisum 3.12 MUZIEK

Tears of Lisbon: Que he o que vejo 4.18 MUZIEK

What do I behold – What do I behold, my lady, when I see thee? Wath causes me to die from love and desire? My hopes, the vanish all, so great is the torment of the disdain.
When I behold thee, I see a thousand woes burgeoning; and when I see thee not, I am not able to live.

Hable con ella: Paloma 3.52 MUZIEK
Caetano Veloso – Cucurrucucu Paloma

Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay,… cantaba, Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay,… gem, Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay,… cantaba, De pasin mortal… mor
Cucurrucucu… cucurrucucu…

Het voelden trillen van zijn gehuil;

Roekoe… duif,
Roekoe… huil niet,
De stenen nooit, duif
Ze zullen de liefde leren kennen!
Roekoe… roekoe…
roekoe… duif, huil niet meer

This world is made up – our world is running mad – the men of this world lie to themselves – they are not gods – they are only human, those malicious men have no compassion at all – they only talk about themselves – the world belongs to them.
if it is God’s will they will have to remember you they will give you a voice to take your chance beofre God what will their answer be?
They will say that in the name of colour or of God they killed Corazon – War in the name of which God? War in the name of which colour? War the colour of blood – there is only one colour of blood. There is too much blood they make life a hard thing to bear – only one man’s will is enough to bring war – Let them talk – your life leads, son – they will talk and talk – but, Corazon, don’t give up, be patient, be smart oh! oh! oh! Iye!Iye!Iye! – don’t live in fear of this madness

Zbigniew Preisner: Lacrimosa 3.24 MUZIEK

Lacrimosa dies illa, qua resurgete ex favilla Judicandus home reus  -Huic ergo parce, Deus: Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem.
Lacrimosa

Ah! that day of tears and mourning! From the dust of earth returning, man for judgement must prepare him: spare, o God, in mercy, spare him! Lord, all pitying, Jesu blest, grant them Thine eternal rest.

Officium: parce mihi domine (Christobal Morales) 6.42 MUZIEK

Peccavi.
Quid faciam tibi, o custos hominum? Quare posuisti me contrarium tibi, et factus sum michimet ipsi gravis?

Spare me, O Lord, for my days are nothing.
What is a man that thou shouldst magnify him?
Or why dost thou set thy heart upon him? Thou visitest him early in the morning, and thou provest him suddenly.
How long wilt thou not spare me, nor suffer me to swallow down my spittle? I have sinned.
What shall I do to thee, O keeper of men? why hast thou set me opposite to thee, and I am become burdensome to myself?
Why dost thou not remove my sin, and why dost thou not take away mine iniquity?
Behold now, I shall sleep in the dust: and if thou seek me in the morning, I shall not be.

Perglosi: Stabat mater 4.42 MUZIEK
1
Stabat mater dolorosa
Juxta crucem lacrimosa,
Dum pendebat filius.
Cujus animam gementem
Contristatam et dolentem
Pertransivit gladius.
2.
O quam tristis et afflicta
Fuit illa benedicta
Mater unigeniti
Quae maerebat et dolebat.
Et tremebat, cum videbat
Nati poenas incliti.
3.
Quis est homo qui non fleret,
Matrem Christi si videret
> In tanto supplicio?
Quis non posset contristari,
Piam matrem contemplari
Dolentem cum filio?
4.
Pro peccatis suae gentis
Vidit Jesum in tormentis
Et flagellis subditum.
Vidit suum dulcem natum
Moriendo desolatum
Dum emisit spiritum.
5.
Eja mater fons amoris,
Me sentire vim doloris
Fac ut tecum lugeam.
Fac ut ardeat cor meum
In amando Christum Deum,
Ut sibi complaceam.
6.
Sancta mater, istud agas,
Crucifixi fige plagas
Cordi meo valide.
Tui nati vulnerati
Tam dignati pro me pati,
Poenas mecum divide!
7.
Fac me vere tecum flere,
Crucifixo condolere,
Donec ego vixero.
Juxta crucem tecum stare
Te libenter sociare
In planctu desidero.
8.
Virgo virginum praeclara,
Mihi jam non sis amara,
Fac me tecum plangere.
Fac ut portem Christi mortem,
Passionis eius sortem
Et plagas recolere.
9.
Fac me plagis vulnerari,
Cruce hac inebriari
Ob amorem filii,
Inflammatus et accensus,
Per te virgo sim defensus
In die judicii.
10.
Fac me cruce custodiri,
Morte Christi praemuniri,
Confoveri gratia.
Quando corpus morietur
Fac ut animae donetur
Paradisi gloria. Amen.
(Alleluia.)

1.
Amen.
(Alleluija)

Philip Glass: Hymne to the sun – Echnaton 6.17   MUZIEK

Thou dost appear beautiful
On the horizon of heaven
Oh, living Aten
He who was the first to live
When thou hast risen on the Eastern Horizon
Thou art fair, great, dazzling,
High above every land
Thy rays encompass the land
To the very end of all thou hast made
All the beasts are satisfied with their pasture
Trees and plants are verdant
Birds fly from their nests, wings spread
Flocks skip with their feet
All that fly and alight
Live when thou hast arisen
How manifold is that which thou hast made
Thou sole God
There is no other like thee
Thou didst create the earth
According to thy will
Being alone, everything on earth
Which walks and flies on high
Thy rays nourish the fields
When thou dost rise
They live and thrive for thee
Thou makest the seasons to nourish
All thou hast made
The winter to cool
The heat that they may taste thee
There is no other that knows thee
Save thy son, Akhnaten
For thou hast made him skilled
In thy plans and thy might
Thou dost raise him up for thy son
Who comes forth from thyself
Text: Sung by Akhnaten (“Akhnaten’s Hymn to the Aten”, from Winton Thomas’s English translation published in Documents from Old Testament Times)

Antonio Vivaldi:  beatus vir 4.56 MUZIEK

Beatus vir qui timet Dominum:
In mandatis ejus volet nimis.
Potens in terra erit semen ejus:
Generatio rectorum,
Benedicetur.
Gloria et divitiae in domo ejus:
Et justitia ejus manet in saeculum saeculi.
Exortum est in tenebris
Lumen rectis misericors,
Et miserator et justus.
Jucundus homo qui miseretur et commodat,
Disponet sermones suos in judicio:
Quia in aeternum
Non commovebitur.
In memoria aeterna erit justus:
Ab auditione mala
Non timebit.
Paratum cor ejus sperare in Domino
Confirmatum est cor ejus:
Non commovebitur,
Donec despiciat inimicos suos.
Dispersit dedit pauperibus:
Justitia ejus manet in saeculum saeculi:
Cornu ejus exaltabiute in gloria.
Peccator videbet et irascetur,
Dentibus suis fremet, et tabescet
Desiderium peccatorum peribit.
Gloria Patri, Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio,
Et nunc,
Et semper.
Et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen.

Nunc, Christe, te petimus, miserere, quaesumus.
Qui venisti redimere perditos, noli damnare redemptos:
Quia per crucem tuam redemisti mundum. Amen.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy and Immortal One, have mercy upon us.
Now, O Christ, we ask thee, we beseech thee, have mercy.
Thou who came to redeem the lost, do not condemn the redeemed:
For by thy cross thou hast redeemed the world. Amen.

This is how Saint Mary saved a man’s foot, when he was in such pain that he would have severed it.
Saint Mary performs for us great and marvelous miracles

Great miracles that we may believe in God Marvelous miracles that we may fear Him;  Yet is good to tell you One of the most compassionate
Saint Mary performs
It took place in a village called Berria; A poor man, his foot burning With pain, was before the altar in the church With other unfortunate persons
Saint Mary performs
The burning pain was so intense That he thought he would have it Amputated: then would he be one of The most hapless of wretches.
Saint Mary performs
Nevertheless, keeping faith, He beseeched Saint Mary To perform one of her miracles On him without delay
Saint Mary performs
Saying: ‘O Virgin, you who always Protect the unfortunate, come to my aid, or Forever shall I be A most unhappy man.’
Saint Mary performs
And while he slept, the Holy Virgin Stroked his foot this way and that And soothed his flesh and the nerves of his toes
Saint Mary performs
And when he awoke, finding that he was healed, he touched his foot, and to be quite sure, he walked barefoot upon the ground, where lay he most indolent.
Saint  Mary performs…
All those who heard him came at once and praised the Holy Virgin, and said that this was one of her most glorious miracles.
Saint  Mary performs…

Holy Mary I have honoured, I hounour, and I will honour.
As of all people now living and most honourable it is to me that she showed much good, I will tell (of this)
Holy Mary I have honoured, I hounour, and I will honour.
For she caused me to be placed among good people and clearly wanted me to rule and be king.
Holy Mary I have honoured, I hounour, and I will honour.
And to those who wished me ill And plotted against me, She gave her just deserts, As I will show
Holy Mary I have honoured, I hounour, and I will honour.
Se freed me from threats Of death and injury Therefore you must understand, oh lords, That I would die for her.
Holy Mary I have honoured, I hounour, and I will honour.

John Tavener: From Darkness into light o lux beata 2.17 MUZIEK

O LUX beata Trinitas,
et principalis Unitas,
iam sol recedit igneus,
infunde lumen cordibus.
Te mane laudum carmine,
te deprecemur vespere:
te nostra supplex gloria
per cuncta laudet saecula.
Deo Patri sit gloria,
eiusque soli Filio,
cum Spiritu Paraclito,
et nunc, et in perpetuum.

O light, blessed threeness and primal oneness: as the fiery sun sets pour light into our hearts
Already night approaches: grant us a peaceful night. Watch over us at sunrise, our only-begotten savior.
With song we praise you in the morning, we pray to you at sunset: with our “glory” may the suppliant praise you through every age.

John Tavener: Jube domino 4.22 MUZIEK

Lord, command that the melody of the new reading be carried across the heavens with praise, so that we may praise you, God, and that you may deign to bless us.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1,1-5, King James Bible

John Tavener: come and do your will 8.06 MUZIEK

Come and do Your will in me. Come when You wish and as You see fit. Come like a breeze, [come] like a blessing, if You think it right. Come like a thunderbolt to test me and burn up my being, If You rhink that is how it should be.
Let each journey freely on the road of his life. Let each sail on the sea of his uncertain fate.
Sail with the voyagers, Fare with the wayfarers, Heal the sick, 0 Physician of our souls and bodies.
Come and do Your will in me…

John Dowland: in darkness let me dwell 4.19 MUZIEK

In darkness let me dwell, the ground shall sorrow be,
The roof despair to bar all cheerful light from me,
The walls of marble black that moisten’d still shall weep,
My music hellish jarring sounds, to banish friendly sleep.
Thus wedded to my woes, and bedded to my tomb,
O, let me, living, living, die, till death do come.

John Dowland: Lacrima vera 5.36 (instrumentaal) MUZIEK

John Tavener: Birthday sleep 6.33 MUZIEK

Sleep. these ancient hours, while the reapers thresh – Sleep, first of flowers, infant of this flesh: The hills for you shall leap, winding rivers flash. Jerusalem rejoice.
And the mountain-ash – move above your sleep, move above your sleep.
Great the mystery stands ; over the dumb tree;  gift of buried hands – whom no eye can see – yet the sages love.
Rest within her silk, for the moving breast cannot give you milk till you hear the dove. Till you hear the dove. Then this giant weight. Vessel of her womb.
Birth will dedicate falling through the loom near the reapers’ sound.
Heaven and Earth in dance moving, as the babe leapt with radiance and our life was found, and our life was found, where knees touched the ground, where knees touched the ground.
Vernon Watkins 1906-1967

Jalda Rebling – An alter nign: einsam 3.18 MUZIEK

Jalda Rebling – An alter nign: a dudele 6.35 MUZIEK

Jalda Rebling – An alter nign: An alter nign 8.42 MUZIEK

Selve amiche, ombrose piante,
Fido albergo del mio core,
Chiede a voi quest’alma amante

Cecilia Bartoli: Caccini: tu ch’hai lep enne, amore 2.08 MUZIEK

Tu ch’hai le penne Amore
E sai spiegarle a volo,
Deh muovi ratto un volo Fin là
dov’è’l mio core,
E se non sai la via,
Co’ miei sospir t’invia

Va pur ch’il troverrai
Tra ‘l velo e ‘l bianco seno,
O tra ‘l dolce sereno
De’ luminosi rai,
O tra bei nodi d’oro
Del mio dolce tesoro

As you have feathers, Cupid,
and know how to spread them out to fly;
fly, then, quickly
to the place where my heart is;
and if you do not know the way
through my sighs I’ll send you (signs);

Go, then, so that you will find it
either between the voile and the white breast,
or in the sweet serenity of bright rays,
or among the golden knots
of my sweet treasure.

Jacques Brel: ne me quitte pas 4.14 MUZIEK

Ne me quitte pas
Il faut oublier
Tout peut s’oublier
Qui s’enfuit déjà
Oublier le temps
Des malentendus
Et le temps perdu
A savoir comment
Oublier ces heures
Qui tuaient parfois
A coups de pourquoi
Le coeur du bonheur
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Moi je t’offrirai
Des perles de pluie
Venues de pays
Où il ne pleut pas
Je creuserai la terre
Jusqu’après ma mort
Pour couvrir ton corps
D’or et de lumière
Je ferai un domaine
Où l’amour sera roi
Où l’amour sera loi
Où tu seras reine
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Je t’inventerai
Des mots insensés
Que tu comprendras
Je te parlerai
De ces amants-là
Qui ont vu deux fois
Leurs coeurs s’embraser
Je te raconterai
L’histoire de ce roi
Mort de n’avoir pas
Pu te rencontrer
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
D’un ancien volcan
Qu’on croyait trop vieux
Il est paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu’un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu’un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir
Ne s’épousent-ils pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
A te regarder
Danser et sourire
Et à t’écouter
Chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir
L’ombre de ton ombre
L’ombre de ta main
L’ombre de ton chien
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas

Laat me niet alleen
Toe, vergeet de strijd
Toe, vergeet de nijd
Laat me niet alleen
 En die domme tijd
Vol van misverstand
Ach vergeet hem, want
 het was verspilde tijd
Hoe vaak hebben wij
Met een snijdend woord
Ons geluk vermoord
Kom, dat is voorbij
Laat me niet allee
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Lief, ik zoek voor jou
In het stof van de wegen
De paarlen van regen
De paarlen van dauw
Ik zal heel mijn leven
Werken zonder rust
Om jou licht en lust,
goud en goed te geven
Ik sticht een gebied
Waar de liefde troont
Waar de liefde loont
Waar jouw wil geschiedt
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Ik bedenk voor jou
Woorden rood en blauw
Taal voor jou alleen
En met warme mond
Zeggen wij elkaar
Eens was er een paar
Dat zichzelf weer vond
Ook vertel ik jou
Van de koning
Die stierf van nostalgie
Hunkerend naar jou
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Want uit een vulkaan
Die was uitgeblust
Breekt zich na wat rust
Toch het vuur weer baan
En op oude grond
Ziet men vaak het graan
Heel wat hoger staan
Dan op verse grond
Het wit mint het zwart
Zwakheid mint de kracht
Daglicht mint de nacht
Mijn hart mint jouw hart
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Nee, ik huil niet meer
Nee, ik spreek niet meer
Want ik wil alleen
Horen hoe je praat
Kijken hoe je lacht
Weten hoe je zacht
Door de kamer gaat
Nee, ik vraag niet meer
Ik wil je schaduw zijn
Ik wil je voetstap zijn
Ik wil je adem zijn
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Jacques Brel: Le plat pays 2.43 MUZIEK

Intense is my thirst. that’s why , I carry my insatiable soul – Avoice without tone, without time Secretly works in the shadows.
I am the solitude of the temple When the fog is all-enveloping, I am the strange flower, in the face of the wind / oblivious of the earth.
With an intense gesture of my soul I am this sadness at being so lonely – So much and so little! Alas. Life!
Intense is my thirst that’s why I seek after the’ desired source – A voice without tone, Without time – That hides within me, in silence.

Christina Branco: post scriptum 2.56 MUZIEK

I remove from you With a veiled anger Body Hands Thought And one by one I secredly blow out The candles your breath has kindled.
Set free, I put my body in its place – I dress the city again I comb out the hair of a parched river I think J have won And I flee I don’t understand,  I think I’m asleep But I can’t find Time.
Then comes the emptiness upon my belly And nostalgia comes with it Heightening it more.
I read my vice In your eyes Slow green eyes such a slow green. If I think of leaving you  I already want you.
I fi think of turning you away I already desire you. If  think of hating you I already hope for you And once again I offer you what I fear. I think of falling silent I already screm for you.
If I think of hiding I already give myself up, If I think I feel nothing lt’s because I’m lying. If I think you’re watching me I tremble already.

Tallis scolars: Allegri: misere 12.27 MUZIEK

Miserere mei, Deus, secundum misericordiam tuam;
et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum
dele iniquitatem meam.
Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea
et a peccato meo munda me.
Quoniam iniquitatem meam ego cognosco,
et in peccato concepit me mater mea.
Ecce enim veritatem in corde dilexisti
et in occulto sapientiam manifestasti mihi.
Asperges me hyssopo, et mundabor;
lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
Audire me facies gaudium et laetitiam,
et exsultabunt ossa, quae contrivisti.
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis
et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus,
et spiritum firmum innova in visceribus meis.
Ne proicias me a facie tua
et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui
et spiritu promptissimo confirma me.
Docebo iniquos vias tuas,
et impii ad te convertentur.
Libera me de sanguinibus, Deus, Deus salutis meae,
et exsultabit lingua mea iustitiam tuam.
Domine, labia mea aperies,
et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam.
Non enim sacrificio delectaris;
holocaustum, si offeram, non placebit.
Sacrificium Deo spiritus contribulatus;
cor contritum et humiliatum, Deus, non despicies.
Benigne fac, Domine, in bona voluntate tua Sion,
ut aedificentur muri Ierusalem.
Tunc acceptabis sacrificium iustitiae, oblationes et holocausta;
tunc imponent super altare tuum vitulos.

Happiness is with others.

I carried the moon on my back,
And I walked and I wept.
Moon, you are hungry
You are sleepy,
All of nature shivers with cold.

 From ploughing the fields.

També avellanetes ;

Estant retirada
En un cambreta,
L ´angel n´hi va entrar
Per la finestreta :

De gracia sou plena.
De nuit de Nadal
Parireu vos, Verge.
En tindreu un noi

The mother of God

When she was a young girl,
The mother of God
Went to the school
Her letters to learn
Carrying a cushion
And a basket she went.

In her basket were
Four little apples,
A crust of bread
And some hazelnuts, too,
she carried some walnuts
and raisins, just a few.

The angels were singing,
– `Garindó, garindeta´
As she sat all alone,
An angel came in
At the window of her room:

God keep thee, Mary,
Full of grace.
On Christmas night,
A Virgin withal,
A little boy child,
As lovely as a star,
To thee shall be born.
Thy son he shall be,
The son of a virgin born.

The child shall be called,
His name shall be Savior
Of heaven and earth.
His name shall be Jesus,
Of heaven and earth the king.

Amaryllis, my lovely one, do you not believe, o my heart’s sweet desire, That you are my love? Believe it thus:  and if fear assails you, Doubt not its truth. Open my breast and see written on my heart: Amaryllis, Amaryllis, Amaryllis, Is my beloved.

Cecilia Bartoli: Vivaldi: Sposa son deprezzata 5.54 MUZIEK

Sposa son disprezzata,
fida son oltraggiata,
cieli che feci mai?
E pur egl’è il mio cor
il mio sposo, il mio amor,
la mia speranza.
L’amo ma egl’è infedel
spero ma egl’è crudel,
morir mi lascierai?
O Dio manca il valor
valor e la costanza

I am a scorned wife,
faithful, yet insulted.
Heavens, what did I do?
And yet he is my heart,
my husband, my love,
my hope.
I love him, but he is unfaithful,
I hope, but he is cruel,
will he let me die?
O God, valor is missing -
valor and constancy

Christina Branco: primavera 3.30 MUZIEK

Todo o amor que nos prendera
 Como se fora de cera
Se quebrava e desfazia
 Ai funesta primavera
Quem me dera, quem nos dera
 Ter morrido nesse dia

 E condenaram-me a tanto
 Viver comigo meu pranto
Viver, viver e sem ti
 Vivendo sem no entanto
 Eu me esquecer desse encanto
 Que nesse dia perdi

 Pão duro da solidão
É somente o que nos dão
O que nos dão a comer
 Que importa que o coração
Diga que sim ou que não
 Se continua a viver

Todo o amor que nos prendera
 Se quebrara e desfizera
 Em pavor se convertia
 Ninguém fale em primavera
Quem me dera, quem nos dera
 Ter morrido nesse dia

Christina Branco: Lisboa de Paixoes 3.26 MUZIEK

Lisboa
 Terra de todos e ninguém.
A que Deus deu o encanto.
 A ti, cidade ninguém
 Nua de mim em pranto
luz divina de sol
 E triste…

 Do mar e Universo.

 Lisboa.

Tallis scolars: Lassus: Salve regina 3.57 MUZIEK

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae:
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules, filii Hevae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, Advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos
ad nos converte.
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis, post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens: O pia: O dulcis
Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve,
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears.
 Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile show unto us the
 blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Tallis scolars: Lassus: Ave regina caelorum 3.52 MUZIEK

Ave Domina Angelorum:
Salve radix, salve porta,
[or Salve, radix sancta,]
Ex qua mundo lux est orta:
Gaude Virgo gloriosa,
Super omnes speciosa,
Vale, o valde decora,
Et pro nobis Christum [semper] exora.

Hail, Queen of the heavens,
Hail, ruler of the angels:
Hail, root, hail, portal
[or Hail, holy root]
From whom light has shone to the world.
Hail, Virgin most glorious,
Beautiful above all,
Farewell, O most comely,
And pray [always] to Christ for us.

Allegri – misere mei 14.51 muziek

Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam. Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me.
Asperges me, hyssopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata.
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis.
Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.

Have mercy upon me, O God, after Thy great goodness: according to the multitude of Thy mercies do away mine offences.
Wash me throughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my faults: and my sin is ever before me.
Against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that Thou mightest be justified in Thy saying, and clear when Thou art judged.
Behold, I was shapen in wickedness: and in sin hath my mother conceived me.
But lo, Thou requirest truth in the inward parts: and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.
Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness: that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice.
Turn Thy face from my sins: and put out all my misdeeds.
Make me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Thy presence: and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
O give me the comfort of Thy help again: and stablish me with Thy free Spirit.
Then shall I teach Thy ways unto the wicked: and sinners shall be converted unto Thee.
Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou that art the God of my health: and my tongue shall sing of  Thy righteousness.
Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord: and my mouth shall shew Thy praise.
For Thou desirest no sacrifice, else would I give it Thee: but Thou delightest not in burnt-offerings.
The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt Thou not despise.
O be favourable and gracious unto Sion: build Thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt Thou be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, with the burnt-offerings and oblations: then shall they offer young bullocks upon Thine altar.

Where are  you running, wee winkie mouse,
Pai-pai-pai-pai?
To carry the wood, to heat the sauna,
Pai-pai-pai.
You’ll sufocate in the smoke.
I’ll crawl under the platform.
What will you eat there?
What will you drink?
I’ll eat some mud, I’ll drink some mire.
You’ll get a swollen belly.
I’ll prick it with a needle.
Wouldn’t It smart?
I’ll smear same butter on it.
Where do you get the butter from?
I’ll take it from the grandmother’s churn.
Where does the grandmother get it from?
From the udder of a piebald cow.
Where does the piebald cow get it from?
From the head of a green bulrush.
Where does tile bulrush get it from?
From the dew in the morning.
Where does the morning dew get it from?
From the bottom of a deep river.

Oidai, let us build it,
Let us build it in the Kaarosta’ village street.
That’s the place where the suitors won’t come,
Oidai, and the pipe-smokers,
And the pipe-smokers wilI not reach.”
But you replied,
Oidai, but you,
But you replied:
“I’ve got a sword in a bushel,

I’ll put the suitors to death,

And bury the pipe-smokers deep.”

Chanticleer – Sound in spirit – cor meum est templum 3.59 muziek

Cor meum
Cor meum est templum sacrum
Sanctius quam etiam mente concipiam
Sapientius quam etiam mea labra loqui possint
Fons mysterii et gratiae.
Cor meum primo tu creavisti vero
Et multis cum mirandis complevisti.
Quod fingens cum manibus tuis formasti
Et simul cum spiritu tuo tetigisti.
Cor meum in tempestavistate sua mihi se detegit
Et aurea venustate flumina
Fluentia monstrans
Me ad itinera infiniti splendoris abscondita perducit.
Tranquillitas tua expectantem tempus eius me tangit.
Et cor meum tuum ut
domum ubertim et perplexum fecisti,
Ut aedem sapientiae ultro
intelligentiam meam formasti
Ut templum gratiarum et mysteriorum
cum tuis manibus finxisti.

Translated into Latin by Edward J. Vodoklys, S.J.

My heart

My heart is a holy place
Wiser and holier than I know it to be
Wiser than my lips can speak
A spring of mystery and grace.
You have created my heart
And have filled it with things of wonder.
You have sculpted it, shaped it with your hands
Touched it with your breath.
In its own season it reveals itself to me
It shows me rivers of gold
Flowing in elegance
And hidden paths of infinite beauty.
You touch me with your stillness as 1 await its time.
You have made it a dwelling
place of richness and intricacies
Of wisdom beyond
my understanding
Of grace and mysteries,
from your hands.

Just as the Glorious One can cause the dead to live, so can She straighten the limbs of cripples.
Concerning this, I shall tell a miracle which She performed in the Great Port, which belongs to the Glorious Queen of Great Worth, for a crippled girl who became there from Jerez, for she had been born there, as I heard tell.
Just as the Glorious…
This girl’s feet were so contorted that they were turned completely backwards, as I learned. Therefore, her father brought her there on a pilgrimage and held novenas there to cure her of that malady.
Just as the Glorious…
Whereby it happened one night that her feet began to hurt badly while she was sleeping, and she woke up immediately. The pain was so intense that she cried out loudly as though she had been wounded or thought  she was dying.
Just as the Glorious…
Her father, who was lying beside her, asked her why she had cried out. She said:”because the Virgin broke my feet and returned to her altar, and I felt a pain such I never thought possible.”
Just as the Glorious…
All those who were there at that time quickly gathered around and examined her feet and saw them turned around as they should be and so perfectly healed that they could not be better.
Just as the Glorious…
Therefore, they began to bless the Queen who performs sich woundrous miracles, and each one, weeping, pressed his face to the earth, saying: “blessed you, for all grace and all mercy lie in you to help us in distress.”
Just as the Glorious…
Therefore, we offer you praise, as is fitting to such a gracious Lady, for you pardon sins and heal all pain. Because of this, we beseech you, if you be so kind, to take us to be with you in Holy Paradise.
Just as the Glorious…
